St. Patrick’s Day Eve

Standard

Incase you weren’t aware, I tend to get a little excited about holidays.  And by a little excited I mean I get a little out of control.

This particular holiday is even worse though.  I married a Guinness loving Irish man and have given birth to at least one, possibly two, ginger babies (I still think Verona’s hair will get redder)… and (dad, stop reading, I’m about to make a dirty joke) I’m pretty sure I count as Irish now too since I have a little bit of Irish in me on such a regular basis.  Ooooo, mommy’s got a potty mouth!  Point being, St. Patrick’s Day is kind of a big deal around these parts.

Anyway, I suddenly realized that tomorrow, St. Patrick’s Day, we’ve got stuff all day long so I wasn’t going to get my green freak on… which means we were officially rocking St. Patrick’s Day Eve!  We started the morning by making some lemonade.  My friend Rachel and her daughter Carmen come over for Hoop Friday every week so Carmen got to help us.

Which of course we made green.

For post-nap lunch I made Verona and David mac and cheese.

And for dinner, broccoli and cheese twice baked potatoes.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s epic St. Patrick’s Day aventures in pictures.

Paint

Standard

If my kids end up being passionate about things I couldn’t care less about I will try my hardest to be involved in it even if I think it’s the most boring thing in the world… but damn it’s so much easier when they’re passionate about things I love too!

Verona is the all about art kid.  She loves her some crayons, modeling clay, colored pencils, stencils and rubber stamps… anything she can get her little hands on.  Lately though she’s been painting non-stop.  She started out with water colors but likes the regular stuff better.  She also enjoys the sidewalk chalk paint recipe I found on pinterest.  (P.S. If you’re not on pinterest you should probably fix that… like, right now.  I’ll send you an invite if you need one.)

The weather has been so beautiful lately we’ve spent pretty much every afternoon outside with her painting away, me hooping, and Finn sitting in his little chair grinning like a goofy bastard.

The reason it has to be nice weather for us to paint is because girlfriend needs to be naked.  Why you may ask?  Because inevitably, when the paper starts to fill up,  we move on to this…

(Do you see the glitter in the paint?  That’s the other obsession… it ends up incorporated into every piece of art.)

And eventually the whole shebang ends up like this…

And eventually all three of us are covered head to toe in a rainbow of colors, in desperate need of a shower.

Seriously… I could not be happier with my life.

DPP4 :: V’s Christmas Tree

Standard

December Photo Project

Christmas activity idea!  V loves playing with the decorations on the Christmas tree but having a toddler run around with glass ornaments all the live long day (or in her particular case, hide them in various drawers in the house and nook and crannies in the backyard) is less than the greatest idea that’s ever happened.

So I made her he own tree.  Felt board, (a big piece of felt I stapled to a cork board) plus a giant tree shaped piece of green felt, candy canes, candles (Hanukkah tree?), and star that I cut out.  There are also some felt versions of those glass ball ornaments in various colors but she figured out that those can double as tiny flimsy frisbees so they’ve long since left the tree and started flying around the playroom.

She can decorate, redecorate, rearrange, and hide things to her little hearts content.
